Have you been following Lucifer? After a massive break due to interruptions by COVID, the final season is finally here!
I’ve binged the whole thing and am ready to give a final opinion on the series. Whether you are about to watch the final season, start the show, or have only ever read the original Neil Gaiman story, this post is for you.
And if you haven’t seen the series yet, you can check it out right here:
Lucifer Morningstar
The series has had a complicated road in the process of being made. Originally the show was a Prime original and aired the first 3 seasons there, but then it was bought by Netflix and moved from one streaming service to the other.
The unfortunate thing with this is the first 3 seasons are still exclusively on Amazon and to make it even more complicated, you need to make an additional purchase, it is no longer a part of Prime.
The final three seasons are all available to watch on Netflix, so ongoing fans of the show can watch the final season but if you are looking to get into it, it isn’t as straightforward as it could be.
All that being said, the series follows Lucifer Morningstar, the devil himself who has taken a vacation from hell. Over the course of the 6 season run, Lucifer comes to learn more about himself and his purpose in life, we meet a crazy cast of biblical characters and the Devil becomes an active part of the local police department.
There are highs and lows and plenty of awkward moments but the casting of Tom Ellis in the title role could not have been better. Serving as a charming, quirky and endearing little devil with a penchant for piano and never shying away from a performance, the series has a lot of heart and soul.
The Final Season
Season 6 (The devil’s number), follows on from some serious twists and turns set up in the previous seasons. So, from here on out, Spoiler Warning!
God has left the universe, with minimal direction and placing the fate of existence into the hands of his warring children, the angels. Lucifer faces off against Michael and they both amass armies to support their battle, Agent Chloe Decker, Lucifer’s love interest dies and is brought back to life. Luci defeats Michael and we are anxiously awaiting his crowning as the new God.
That was season 5… So what is left to uncover in season 6 you may ask? Well, Lucifer has struggled to know himself throughout the run of the show and the final season is no different.
The final season has the mammoth task of wrapping up all of the shows loose ends and keeping the audience engaged throughout with fresh threads to follow and I honestly think they did an excellent job.
After the hiccups of season 5 (ahem, that musical episode anyone?), this season felt a lot more sure of itself and purposeful in its concluding of events.
Things feel ended and satisfying as the show wraps up. I don’t want to give away too much in case you want to see it, but you can rest assured that everyone has their ending…
Have you watched the final season yet? What did you think?
