The upcoming open-world role-playing game by WB Games, set to release sometime in 2022, might release a long-awaited update for fans far sooner than expected.
Since announced back in 2020, the game has been kept very well under wraps and fans have been anxious and hungry for more details. Well, the wait might finally be over.
News Incoming
According to reputable leaker and PlayStation insider Millie Amand, Hogwarts Legacy would be next ‘shown’ either this month or at December’s Game Awards. She posted this response to a fan asking for any ‘insight or inside info’ on October 1st. However, her tweet on Friday 22nd alongside an apt gif of Michael Scott biting his bottom lip with the caption ‘must hold it in’, revealed that the showcase she was referring to was indeed the State of Play.
When I said this, I so badly wanted to say State of Play, but couldn’t 🤣 https://t.co/xNKNdzGh3u pic.twitter.com/PSYQHXI6Yj

This tweet followed Sony’s announcement of the upcoming State of Play event, but Amand has since tweeted that she was ‘not confirming Hogwarts Legacy for State of Play,’ likely in response to the hype that followed.
PlayStation State of Play
So far, we know that the State of Play event will focus largely on third-party releases heading to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, giving Hogwarts Legacy a strong chance of making an appearance.
As stated by PlayStation.Blog: “The show is looking to be ~20 minutes or so, and will share new looks at previously announced games, plus a few reveals from our partners around the world.” Other titles that might also appear in Wednesday’s event are Final Fantasy 16, Gotham Knights, and Lord of the Rings: Gollum.
What We Do Know
As for Hogwarts Legacy itself, there are already several trailers and images to satisfy fans at this stage with a fairly substantial and exciting glimpse into the game.
Players will be immersed into the Wizarding World as it was back in the 1800s and join the renowned School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. While there will be no Golden Trio, we will surely get to explore deep into the lore of the Harry Potter universe and, as stated on the Warner Bros. FAQ support page, “embark on a dangerous journey to uncover a hidden truth of the wizarding world.”
The game will allow players to undertake their own unique journey, with full character customisation and the ability to explore Hogwarts and other locations such as Hogsmeade and the Forbidden Forest. It will be interesting to see how this game’s map will compare to some of the original open-world Harry Potter games, namely The Order of the Phoenix and The Half-Blood Prince. Or will we have to expect some changes to the layout of the fictional school given its setting 200 years prior to that of the movies?
The game is confirmed to be launching on the PlayStation5, PlayStation4, PlayStation4 Pro, the Xbox One family of devices, including Xbox Series X and Xbox One X, and PC.
Fans should probably take the rumours of more information released at State of Play lightly given the current lack of official confirmation, but it is certainly worth keeping an eye out for!
For those of you that want to stream the event, keep an eye on Sony’s Twitch and YouTube channels on Wednesday, October 27th at 2:00pm PT.
