Sink your teeth into this…
Crunchyroll, the proclaimed “ultimate anime destination,” announced earlier this week the platform’s plans to reduce their UK Mega Fan Plan by 25%. This sees the monthly subscription reduced from £7.99 down to £5.99. Ireland’s Mega Fan Plan will see a reduction from 9.99 EUR to 6.49 EUR.
The announcement also promised a price drop in over 100 countries and territories which included Brazil, India, Caribbean and Middle Eastern regions. Fans of the platform noticed that the US and Canada were omitted from this list.
Earlier this year, Sony Pictures Entertainment bought Crunchyroll for $1.18 billion, and henceforth folded in content from the competitor anime platform, Funimation. Fans were nervous this deal would result in a hitch in prices, but it seems the opposite is the case.
Completely baffled?
Think Netflix, but for all of your manga favourites; we’re talking Attack on Titan, My Hero Academia, Demon Slayer, One Piece, Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, Cowboy Bepop, Fullmetal Alchemist, Bleach and so much more.
President of Crunchyroll, Rahul Purini, said: “Earlier this year, we promised anime fans that we would provide more value in one subscription experience…Since then, our team has expanded our catalogue with more subtitled and dubbed anime in more languages than ever before.”
Alongside this price slash, the platform has also pledged to add more dubbed content in more languages, making the platform more accessible as it’s worldwide fan value increases.
Purini later added: “Today, we’re excited to offer Crunchyroll Premium memberships for select regions at a new, lower price for both existing subscribers and new fans alike, as we continue to add more content to the service.”
