Brightburn (2019)
What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister?
Think evil child superman… This film was written by the brother and cousin of the famous James Gunn of Marvel and DC success. Brian and Mark Gunn took the all American story about a boy from an alien world who becomes a protector to our own and really flipped the script.
If you enjoy super graphic horror, you are in for a treat.

Chronicle (2012)
Three high school friends gain superpowers after making an incredible discovery underground. Soon they find their lives spinning out of control and their bond tested as they embrace their darker sides.
Michael B. Jordan, Dane DeHaan and Alex Russell play three teenagers who uncover an otherworldly secret.
The film is directed in an autobiographical way as Andrew (DeHaan) records the events. As the boys develop powers, their true characters start to come through the cracks.
The reason it is on this list as you may have guessed… Something goes wrong. This is a truly spectacular film that will leave you questioning just how much powers can change people.

Tetsuo: The Iron Man (1989)
A businessman accidentally kills The Metal Fetishist, who gets his revenge by slowly turning the man into a grotesque hybrid of flesh and rusty metal.
Don’t let the old school visuals fool you, this is perhaps the most disturbing film listed here.
Written and directed by Shin’ya Tsukamoto, who also appears in the film, this movie combines superhumans with dark and dreary ghost stories to bring you something that will not leave your brain anytime soon.

The Crow (1994)
A man brutally murdered comes back to life as an undead avenger of his and his fiancée’s murder.
Based on the comics by James O’Barr, The Crow is a dark dystopian story with an even darker behind the scenes.
Whilst filming the final scenes of the film, Brandon Lee, son of Bruce Lee, was fatally injured. The film is full of gothic and dark imagery and has a massive cult following.

Blade
A half-vampire, half-mortal man becomes a protector of the mortal race, while slaying evil vampires.
This adaptation of the beloved series from Marvel comics stars Wesley Snipes as he goes up against the terrible vampires that haunt the human race.
The film was quite a departure from the comics with much of the original story changed, but it is an action-packed bloodbath with two sequels to keep you entertained.

Hellboy (2004)
A demon, raised from infancy after being conjured by and rescued from the Nazis, grows up to become a defender against the forces of darkness.
From the mysterious mind of Guillermo del Toro, comes the first adaptation of Hellboy, the half-demon raised from Hell to accomplish their nefarious means, but instead grows to fight against his dark origins.

Constantine (2005)
Supernatural exorcist and demonologist John Constantine helps a policewoman prove her sister’s death was not a suicide, but something more.
Keanu Reeves stars as John Constantine bringing the hero from the Hellblazer comics to life. This is another gem that has garnered a devoted following and it is well worth a watch.

From Hell (2001)
In Victorian-era London, a troubled clairvoyant police detective investigates the murders of Jack the Ripper.
This film has everything going for it, Victorian-era London, Jack the Ripper, vampires, an Alan Moore story and Johnny Depp, but reactions are mixed.
However, this film is worth watching if any of the above tickle your fancy. The film is entertaining and engaging and will at times take you to the edge of your seat.

Tales From The Crypt (1972)
Five strangers get lost in a crypt and, after meeting the mysterious Crypt Keeper, receive visions of how they will die.
Following the format of the beloved show, this film explores events relating to five strangers on their terrible adventures.

My Friend Dahmer (2017)
A young Jeffrey Dahmer struggles to belong in high school.
Inspired by the comic about Dahmer’s early life from the perspective of a friend, this harrowing look at the would-be infamous serial killer is in parts disturbing, engaging, informative and tragic.
If you enjoy true crime and bio-drama films, this is a great pick.
